The Volkswagen Taigo does not only bring coupe styling to the compact crossover segment but also has a host of features that appeal to a broad spectrum of consumers. We take a look at the 8 features that we like the most on the 2023 model.
8 little things
The Volkswagen Taigo was unveiled in June 2022 and has done relatively well since our initial drive and first road test. We managed to secure a test drive again in 2023 and were happy to see that nothing besides the price had changed.
Having spent a few days with the Taigo again, we wanted to highlight some of the best features that really appeal to us here at AutoTrader.
1. Smokey Grey paintwork
Draped over the curvaceous body panels of the Taigo is a deep Smokey Grey paintwork that is unlike any colour we’ve seen on a compact crossover. The paint is set off by the metallic black accent colour on the roofline, mirror caps and 18″ Misano Alloy wheels.
2. 1.0TSI engine
The engineering marvel nestled in the engine bay of the Taigo is a 1.0l turbo petrol engine that delivers 85kW and 200Nm without batting an eye. This little powerplant will rocket the Taigo from 0-100km/h in 10 seconds, and even with that punchy performance, you can still return 5.4 litres/100km with combined cycle driving.
3. Boot space
Pop open the coupe-styled rear hatch, and you are greeted by a spacious luggage area measuring 440l, which is only 15l down from its T-Cross brother. If you need to load anything larger, you can drop the 60/40 split rear seats, expanding load capacity to 1222l.
4. Dual material seating
Volkswagen’s enthusiasts will smile when seeing the seats in the Taigo. Covering the centre of the seats is a patterned cloth that is a nod to the GTi that employed this styling tactic. Bordering the patterned cloth is a supple Alcantara-type material with the R Line logo prominently displayed.
5. 7-speed DSG
The DSG has been a staple of VW products for years now, having filtered down from the sporty GTi, the simplicity of driving a DSG transmission-equipped vehicle is an absolute pleasure as it punches through gears and handles traffic like a boss.
6. Driver assistance systems
The Taigo in R Line trim gets a full complement of driver assistance system in the form the IQ Drive Package which features equipment like Lane Keeping System, Forward collision warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking System with Adaptive Cruise Control.
7. Beats Sound System
Another feature that will appeal to the youth and any audiophiles climbing into the Taigo is the beats audio system that runs through the Discover Media infotainment system. To keep your audio sources fully charged and handsfree, you will find Wireless App-Connect, Inductive Charging, Voice Control and a Navigation System
8. Panoramic sunroof
Despite the flashes of grey on the seats, the interior of the Taigo can be a bit sombre but retract the internal shade and it reveals a massive panoramic sunroof that allows huge amounts of light to brighten up the interior.
