Light DIY
The VW Polo is South Africa’s favourite passenger car for a number of reasons. High on that list of reasons is the fact that they are super simple to do minor DIY maintenance on. Easy tasks such as changing a headlight bulb are quick and you can do them right at home, and we can show you how with this easy step-by-step tutorial.
You will need a few inexpensive tools but nothing that’s gonna break the bank.
You will need:
- New headlight bulbs (correct wattage and amperage for your model)
- Torx bit & driver
Let’s get it done!
- Open the bonnet
- Using the Torx bit and driver, remove the screws that hold the headlight assembly in place.
- Unclip the connecter plug from the assembly.
- Carefully remove the assembly.
- Locate the cover on the cover on the back of the assembly and remove the retaining clips.
- Remove the connecter plug from the back of the bulb.
- Remove the bulb.
- Install a new bulb.
- Replace connector, cover and clips.
- Reinstall the assembly and test the unit.
Pro tip: DO NOT touch the new bulb with your bare hands as it transfers oils to the glass that burn in place, reducing the lifespan of the new bulb
