Our firsthand experience of motorcycle ban on Villar City
Earlier this month, former senator and real estate tycoon, Manny Villar, inaugurated the Villar Avenue which will become the main thoroughfare for the 3,500-hectare Villar City in Cavite.
Villar City is touted to be “the new center of gravity of Metro Manila” by the former senator’s real estate company. The inauguration of Villar Avenue also coincided with the acquisition of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (MCX) from Ayala Corporation for a reported sum of PHP 3.8 billion.
The new multi-lane avenue cuts through the City of Bacoor all the way to the City of Dasmarinas, bypassing the busy Old Molino Road. This will save a lot of time if you’re traveling from Bacoor to Tagaytay City or vice versa, as the new Villar Avenue will bring you closer to Paliparan-Silang Road – considered to be the real “backdoor” to Tagaytay.
Unfortunately, and just like the DPWH-constructed River Drive in Las Pinas and Bacoor, motorcycles, as well as bicycles, are prohibited from using Villar Avenue and from entering Villar City.
MotoPinas.com had first-hand experience when the guards on duty flagged us down on our way back to Las Pinas from Tagaytay. According to the guards on duty, all types of motorcycles and bicycles are prohibited from using the newly-opened Villar Avenue, which basically prohibits its riders’ entry to Villar City.
For now, added the guards on duty, only the police on their motorcycles are given the courtesy to use Villar Avenue. It is worth noting that the guards on duty were very polite and were apologetic for the inconvenience as they were just following orders from above.
Like the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, Villar City is a privately-owned real estate development. What differentiates the two is that BGC doesn’t discriminate against motorcyclists and cyclists, even when it was newly opened many years ago. Let’s just hope that the former senator will reconsider this policy and will soon allow 2-wheelers from enjoying the road with his namesake on it.
