We check out the average cost of servicing and parts on the Volvo V60 Cross Country and find out some rather interesting information
Cross Country affair
For some or other reason wagons just don’t do well in SA and as such the Volvo V60 Cross Country was pulled from sale locally a few years back leaving aficionados to shop for their next Volvo wagon on the second hand market. If you are thinking about purchasing one of these vehicles you may be concerned with the maintenance schedule and the costs that come with it.
We did some research and found that despite the initial reports from a few years back stating that parts were hideously expensive and difficult to come by, the situation has lightened, with service parts now being relatively easy to find and relatively well priced.
Cost of ownership
The Volvo V60 CC gets an average ownership score of 4.5 / 5 with an average 5-year ownership cost of R14 350 for services and spares outside the service plan. There is also a 32.29% chance that a V60 Cross Country will require a major repair during a 10-year ownership cycle, a major repair is considered anything over R5000.
An older 2015 Kinsey report gives a rough breakdown of parts costs:
Car Air Filter Replacement | R 1230 (excl labour) |
Shock Absorber – Rear Replacement | R 1520 each (excl labour) |
Brake Rotor/Disc – Rear Replacement | R 1377 each (excl labour) |
Cabin Air Filter Replacement | R 740 (excl labour) |
Turn Signal Switch Replacement | R 2960 (excl labour) |
Axle / CV Shaft Assembly – Driver Side Front Replacement | R 5245 a set (excl labour) |
Brake Pad Replacement (Rear) | R 567 a set (excl labour) |
Window Motor / Regulator Assembly | R 3391 (excl labour) |
Verdict
As you can see Volvo parts are fairly priced versus their European counterparts with the only real problem being availability of off schedule parts. Many parts will be an agents only affair with very few parts dealers carrying them off the shelf. One also needs to calculate in the labour costs of having them fitted as Volvos are complicated machines and need expert technicians to do much of the work required.
