Get to know what to expect when maintaining a used Jaguar F-Pace out of warranty and maintenance plan. Find out what the common faults are and what you should be paying for a dealer service.
There once was a time when the thought of a Jaguar SUV seemed absurd. We had become accustomed to their offerings being limited to stately sedan and the occasional estate, but in 2015 they unveiled the F-Pace, a compact crossover SUV based on the C-X17 concept. Several years down the line, the F-Pace remains a desirable product and the offerings in the used market are certainly appealing. But what about maintenance costs? Is a Jaguar F-Pace expensive to maintain?
While all Jaguar F-Paces are sold with a 5-year/100 000 km warranty and 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan, the more affordable models will be found outside of this guarantee. If you’re looking at a 2016 or 2017 model, you won’t have the same assurance as you would if you happened to choose a 2018 model or newer one that still has these plans in place.
This shouldn’t necessarily deter you. Let’s look at the maintenance costs of a Jaguar F-Pace.
Known issues
It’s true, Jaguar doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to reliability, but a lot of this is a carry-over from their troubled years as part of the Ford brand. Modern Jaguars, under the guidance and watchful eye of Land Rover, have drastically improved and the F-Pace is not a particularly troublesome vehicle.
With that being said, no vehicle is perfect and there have been reports of some faults and common issues in the F-Pace product. Owners of these vehicles have reported that the most common concern is with the electronics and particularly the infotainment system. Their issues range from small glitches and nuances to full-scale failure. Most of the common concerns are however rectified with one of the numerous software updates that are available for the F-Pace that were rolled out as Jaguar Land Rover continued to fine-tune and tweak their software.
Other concerns revolve around the fuel consumption that can sometimes be significantly higher than quoted in certain models. Others have reported that rattles and interior squeaks have manifested over time.
Cost of maintenance
Conferring with Jaguar themselves, they gave us a rundown of the anticipated service costs for an F-Pace out of warranty and maintenance plan. You can look at spending approximately R6 000 for a minor service at the agent while a major service is a little more at R8 000. There are scheduled brake services and these are due after a set amount of time or mileage. These cost considerably more and you should set aside about R14 000 for this service. It will see the brakes replaced and the necessary hoses replaced as well, ensuring that you have brakes that are as good as new when you leave the dealership.
Depending on the model, a cambelt service will run you in the region of R20 000 while those engines that use timing chains do not require a replacement.
