Ducati’s off-road venture is going strong and has yielded another model from the platform. Called the Ducati Desmo450 EDS, it is a street-legal enduro model. The maker showed off a “preview” version at EICMA, November last year, which clearly was not the final production bike. and offering only minimal details about what the finished model would include. So now the European design registrations photos were leaked, giving a clearer er… picture of how Ducati reshaped their race‑focused 450 into a fully street‑legal machine. To refresh, both the Desmo450 MX (motocross only) and Desmo450 EDX (enduro) share the same chassis geometry and a 970mm seat height. However, the latter has an 8.5-litre fuel tank and an 18” rear wheel instead of the MX’s 19”. The extra fuel, plus several other features such as lights and lighting coil adds weight, thus EDX weighs 109 kg dry compated to the MX at 105 kg dry. Thus it is perhaps a no-brainer that the EDS uses the EDX as the starting point. Highlights of the Ducati Desmo450 EDS The exhaust went through the biggest change – instead of the EDX’s competition pipe, the EDS has a longer header that loops farther down in front of the engine, where an O₂ sensor is mounted. A circular catalytic converter tucked behind a heatshield, instead of the “flattened” expansion chamber of the EDX. These updates may extend service intervals beyond the MX and EDX’s 15‑hour oil‑change and 45‑hour piston‑replacement schedules. Radiator cooling fans are expected. A six-speed gearbox and the larger capacity 8.5-litre tank may also be realities. A right‑side heel guard that shields the rear brake cylinder and new left‑side covers for the sprocket and chain. A compact dash and the ignition key are tucked in behind the cowl. A sidestand, mirrors, turn‑signals, and license plate mount are present for road-use. The suspension looks the same as used on the EDX, i.e. 49mm Showa forks and a Showa rear shock, but the damping rates ought to be different. The EDS will enter a competitive performance dual-sport segment dominated by brands like KTM, Honda, Beta, but the Ducati has done well in the MX segment and is expected to continue its form.
