Mahindra and its authorized dealership in Tumakuru, Karnataka was in soup over an incident of a sales executive ridiculing a farmer for his visual appearance, who arrived in the showroom for checking out the Bolero. However, after facing a lot of backlashes, Mahindra issued a formal apology over the whole incident, with the farmer finally getting a Bolero pickup on a prior basis by Mahindra Automotive.
The farmer, whose name is Mr Kempegowda RL, has confirmed taking the delivery of his Mahindra Bolero pickup vehicle for Rs 9.6 lakh. He also added that neither he asked for any discounts, nor did the authorized dealership offer the same upfront.
What was the whole incident?
The incident goes back to 21st January when Kempegowda RL went to Mahindra’s authorized dealer outlet in Tumakuru, Karnataka with his friends. However, according to him, the sales executive in charge of them ridiculed him for his appearance. He said that the sales executive added that forget having Rs 10 lakh for the vehicle, the farmer might not be having even Rs 10 in his pocket. The executive said that he might give the vehicle to the farmer if he comes with the whole amount equivalent to the price of the vehicle within an hour.
The whole incident and conversation agitated the farmer, who came back to the showroom with Rs 10 lakh cash within an hour. However, even after that, the sales executive denied delivering the vehicle citing the reasons for curfew due to COVID-19 restrictions. After this, Kempegowda RL demanded immediate delivery of the vehicle and a written apology from the folks at Mahindra.
The entire incident was recorded in a video, which in no time went viral on social media. People started asking Mahindra Group’s Chairman, Anand Mahindra, to look into this matter. After facing a lot of criticism on Twitter, Mahindra Automotive regretted the inconvenience caused to the farmer on its Twitter handle.
In the tweet, Mahindra Automotive mentioned that it will be happy to serve Kempegowda RL and welcome him into the Mahindra family. In an additional tweet, the account also mentioned that Mahindra will investigate this matter and take appropriate action if needed, as the dealers are the front face of the company. Mahindra takes the whole responsibility of ensuring that dealers behave in the most customer-centric manner.
