A pair of 2024 BMW S1000XRs
BMW have upped the performance of their standard S1000XR adventure sportsbike for 2024, taking the long-legged missile from a claimed 162.3bhp, to 167.6bhp at 11,000rpm.
Retaining the same BMW S1000RR-derived 999cc four-cylinder engine as before, the new bike benefits from revised intake channel geometry and fresh mapping. Although power is boosted, torque remains at respectable 84.1lbft at 9250rpm as before.
Available in three new colour options, the XR is also said to benefit from improved rider comfort – with the revised ergonomics claimed to strengthen both road- and circuit-based usage.
Starting with the seat, BMW say it has been completely redesigned – offering an extra 10mm of seat height (bringing it to 850mm) and providing a little more room for your legs. There’s also said to be more room for your bum, with more of the seat’s length and width available to the rider’s cheeks.
If 850mm is too tall for you, three seat height options are available, and it’s hoped that the new pad will make it easier for riders using the bike on the road, or on a trackday – where movement is especially important.
Also assisting during rides will be a redesigned handlebar clamp and revised rear shock, although BMW were unable to confirm how the latter had changed at this time.
Styling wise, the front beak is now also colour matched rather than black and the radiator trim has a textured finish. The rear body work has also received minor styling adjustments, too.
Back at the front, BMW have also added cornering headlights as standard – helping to light up turns more effectively during night rides. There’s also now standard daytime running lights, as well as keyless ignition, and a USB charging port to plug in your accessories.
Battery capacity is also up from 9Ah to 12Ah, and the bike can now be equipped with M Carbon wheels as an optional extra to reduce un-sprung weight. Prices will start at £16,790 and climb to £18,340 for the TE, with both expected to land in the UK in April 2024.
