New PG-1 shown ahead of Thai Motor Expo 2023
Back in March 2020, Honda unveiled (via online due to COVID-19) the CT125 Hunter Cub. The CT125 is a reincarnation of Honda’s legendary Trail Cub series of motorcycles that were produced since 1964. The CT125 Hunter Cub is not officially sold by Honda Philippines in the country but is available as grey import with a price tag that starts at PHP 220,000.
Yamaha now has an answer to Honda’s CT125 Hunter Cub and a special sneak preview was held in Thailand for its all-new PG-1 motorcycle. The sneak preview was held before its official unveiling at the Thai Motor Expo 2023 happening between November 30 to December 12.
What we know
On the outside, the new PG-1 has some aesthetic features that look similar to Honda’s CT125 Hunter Cub. For example, the PG-1 has some “rugged” styling like the 17-inch dual-purpose tires, semi-long travel suspension, less plastic fairings, bash plate, hand guards, heavy-duty carrying basket, and front disc brake.
It is powered by the same 114cc single-cylinder air-cooled EFI engine from the Yamaha Sight 115, so expect that the PG-1 is also capable of achieving ridiculous fuel efficiency figures of up to 147 kilometers per liter.
As some of the display models presented during the special sneak preview, the PG-1 seems to be designed by Yamaha engineers with full customization in mind. The PG-1 can be easily turned into a scrambler, a rat bike, or whatever the owner wants with his bike.
Sources indicate that the PG-1 might be sold in Thailand with an SRP that starts at THB 48,700, which is roughly PHP 77,300 only (PH taxes and other duties not included). But again, this is not yet the final price tag.
Will Yamaha Motor Philippines bring the all-new PG-1 into our country?
