The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most recognizable SUVs in India. Almost every politician has one. Apart from that, the massive road presence of the SUV allows the user to bully his way around the traffic.
In March 2022, Toyota sold 2.984 units of Fortuner SUVs in India. This has resulted in an almost 40 per cent increase in YoY sales figures as the company manages to sell 848 units more this year. In addition to that, MoM sales have increased by more than 61 per cent as the Japanese automaker sold 1,848 units in February 2022.
MG Gloster (152 units)
Though the MG Gloster has taken the second step of the podium in terms of sales figures, it is still a very distant second as MG Motor could only manage to sell 152 units of this mammoth SUV in March 2022.
Apart from that, YoY sales have taken an almost 70 per cent hit as the company managed to sell 505 units last year around the same time. However, MoM sales figures have improved as the Chinese-owned British automaker managed to sell 1 unit more than the previous month.
Skoda Kodiaq (125 units)
Though Skoda Kodiaq may not be on your favourite Neta’s shopping list, this large premium SUV from the Czech automaker is an excellent mile muncher and an outstanding family SUV as it delivers strong performance, long features list, and a comfortable ride.
Despite all these qualities, Skoda could only manage to sell 125 units of Kodiaq in March 2022. However, MoM sales for this Czech 7-seater SUV has increased by more than 86 per cent.
Hyundai Tucson (109 units)
The Hyundai Tucson will more than fit the bill for anyone looking for a large premium SUV without breaking their bank. This South Korean SUV comes packed to the brim with features and offers a punchy powertrain and decent interior space.
However, Hyundai could only sell 109 units of this SUV in March 2022, resulting in a YoY sales decline of 24 per cent and MoM sales decline of almost 37 per cent.
Alturas G4 (41 units)
The Alturas G4 is a very refined premium large SUV. Though it is a very comfortable and capable SUV, the lack of focus from the automaker has somewhat restricted itself from reaching its full sales potential.
In March 2022, Mahindra could only manage to sell 41 units of this large premium SUV, resulting in YoY sales decrease of more than 16 per cent. However, MoM sales have increased by more than 51 per cent for the model.
Volkswagen Tiguan (31 units)
Volkswagen Tiguan is a solid product from Volkswagen, it offers seating for 5 adults and comes with punchy yet efficient powertrain.
In March 2022, Volkswagen sold 31 units of this large premium SUV in India, resulting in an MoM sales decline of more than 76 per cent as the company managed to sell 130 units in the previous month.
Ford Endeavour (0 units)
The Ford Endeavour used to be a very popular large SUV when it was on sale in India. Apart from that, the last update added a very fuel-efficient yet punchy 2.0-litre powertrain to the vehicle.
However, Ford’s exit from the Indian automobile market meant 0 units of Ford Endeavour SUVs were sold in March 2022.
