Updated Hyundai medium SUV is set to don a new look and minor tech upgrade when it arrives next year
A disguised 2024 Hyundai Tucson prototype has been spotted testing in the Austrian alps with what looks to be a new grille poking out from beneath the dense camo wrap.
The new grille looks to have been reshaped compared to the current model’s and features a chunkier mesh, however, the signature illuminated sections have been retained.
No other obvious changes have been made to the Tucson’s exterior, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the front and rear lighting signatures end up being tweaked in conjunction with revised bumpers at either end.
Our contacts in Europe tell us the updated mid-size SUV could be in line for a headlight upgrade, with the current LED reflector units likely to be replaced by more advanced LED projectors, at least in the upper reaches of the range.
This particular prototype is rolling on a previously unseen set of 17-inch alloy wheels shod with tall 215/65-profile Michelin Primacy tyres, which suggests the vehicle is at the lower end of line-up and that the new front fascia will be complemented by a refreshed selection of wheel designs.
Zoom in tight and you’ll note the dashboard is being masked as much as the exterior. While we can’t be certain about what changes have been made, our spy photographer tells us the prototype was fitted with a new-generation Hyundai Kona steering wheel.
Such an upgrade will almost certainly be paired with some trim changes and or sharper interfaces, including the infotainment system and instrument cluster.
Supposedly earmarked for a global reveal in the closing stages of this year, the facelifted Tucson hauler will more than likely enter Australian showrooms sometime next year with the familiar array of 2.0-litre petrol, turbo-diesel and 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engines.
A 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain is also tipped to arrive next year, but it’s not clear whether it will be introduced with the facelift or beforehand, given Hyundai is yet to confirm either it or wider Tucson facelift.
