New dressed-up turbo-petrol six-cylinder flagship to replace V8 SVR at top of large British SUV line-up for 23MY – for now
Jaguar Australia will bolster its local Jaguar F-PACE line-up later this year with the arrival of the aggressive-looking new 400 Sport variant.
Due here sometime before June and signalling the arrival of the 23MY Jaguar F-PACE range, the 400 Sport combines pumped-up aesthetics with Jaguar Land Rover’s familiar 294kW/550Nm turbocharged straight-six petrol engine to create something of an ‘SVR-lite’ variant of the large British SUV.
That’s a good thing because, at this stage, the SVR flagship won’t feature within the MY23 F-PACE line-up, which will initially consist of R-Dynamic S, SE, HSE and 400 Sport grades in that hierarchy.
Donning unique 21-inch alloy wheels, a factory Black Pack, privacy glass and black roof rails, the F-PACE 400 Sport’s angrier demeanour is reflected within the cabin by slimline performance seats upholstered in Windsor leather, a black Suedecloth headlining and darkened silver trim elements, with 30-colour ambient lighting adding an extra level of opulence to the athletic package.
Speaking of athleticism, the 400 Sport doesn’t feature any more power or torque than other six-cylinder petrol F-PACE variants, meaning it therefore shares the same 5.4-second 0-100km/h time.
Likewise, top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h while transmission duties are taken care of by the familiar eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard on all F-PACEs.
Jaguar exterior design director Adam Hatton said developing the F-PACE 400 Sport gave his team the “opportunity to subtly accentuate the F-PACE’s inherently assertive, purposeful design and deliver an even more confident on-road presence”.
“Together with the quiet, effortless performance from the six-cylinder engine, the new F-PACE 400 Sport will make every journey extraordinary,” he said.
Jaguar Australia’s entire MY23 F-PACE range will come standard with Amazon Alexa integration, but full specs and pricing won’t be announced until closer to launch.
