This could give the Italian brand something special as it looks to reinvent itself for the modern age.
According to a report from Italian publication Quattroroute, the as-yet-unnamed Alfa Romeo supercar will use a turbocharged hybrid powertrain, and its engine could be based on that of the Maserati MC20. The report claims that the MC20's Nettuno V6 engine will be paired with at least one electric motor that could bring power up to as much as 800 horsepower, versus 621 hp in the Maserati. In addition, the publication claims that the new Alfa supercar is likely to channel some influence from past classic racers like the 33 Stradale by having the doors integrate a portion of the roof, but beyond that, it should be all-new and will not look like a modernization or a restomod of an existing design.

Alfa Romeo itself has revealed very little about the new car besides to say that it will be revealed at the end of next month. The company's CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, has also revealed that interest in the car is so high that all examples will be spoken for before the reveal takes place and that the design will be so special that it could sit “aside the 8C in the Museum of Arese.”
This new report from Italy gives us a little more to look forward to, but we're not 100% convinced that this rumor is legit, given what Maserati has said in the past about sharing its Nettuno engine.

After the MC20 was revealed, Maserati claimed that its engine would never find itself in any other car. But then it changed its mind and put the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 in the Grecale Trofeo. After that happened, the Italian automaker said that the engine would be shared only among Maserati products, but seeing as the Nettuno is already proving to be less exclusive than Maserati originally claimed it would be, perhaps Maserati has changed its tune.
On the other hand, this report may be false, and Maserati may not allow a rival (or sibling) automaker to use its engine, particularly when that rival is going to produce even more power overall. We'll have to wait for next month's reveal to confirm anything, but if this report is true, the Alfa supercar will certainly be one of the most special supercars of the year.
