Volvo’s new battery-electric EX30 small SUV rival for BMW iX1 shown in official teaser and patent images
Volvo has locked in a June 7 reveal for its upcoming 2024 Volvo EX30 small SUV and simultaneously released a teaser video previewing the all-new BMW iX1 rival.
Also confirming the battery-electric compact crossover will indeed be known as the Volvo EX30, the Chinese-owned Swedish brand has provided some tantalising glimpses of the EV which shows off an attractive silhouette, striking LED lighting elements front and rear, and a premium interior fit-out complete with eco-friendly upholstery and ‘easter eggs’ such as the Swedish flag stitched in.
The official teaser has emerged just days after design patent images were posted to the Cochespias forum site, which provide a better view of the EXE30’s styling and key design elements such as pointed T-shaped LED daytime running lights.
The headlight clusters are linked by what appears to be a contrasting trim element which replicates the rectangular design theme of the bumpers and tailgate.
June 7 will also mark the opening of pre-orders in select markets, although it’s not yet confirmed whether Australia will be one of them.
That said, the Volvo EX30 has already been confirmed for a local launch by the end of this year.
An attractive circa-$65,000 opening price is on the cards for Volvo’s new EV, as the premium brand aims to appeal to younger and young-at-heart buyers, just as it has done with the Volvo XC40.
Details are still under wraps, but the EX30 is expected to have plenty in common with the Smart #1 that’s also part of the Geely empire.
