The second-gen Volvo XC60 received its mid-life facelift with the MY2022 update, and is available in the updated version at dealerships in the U.S. market. The 2022 Volvo XC60 includes subtle but a number of cosmetic updates and packs one big change on the powertrain front. Here’s everything that’s new in the 2022 Volvo XC60.
Exterior & Interior

The 2022 Volvo XC60 features a new grille, sportier bumpers at the front and rear, and new wheels. The recast bumpers have vertical side air inlets instead of horizontal cuts, while the rear bumpers, unlike those of the old model, don’t house exhaust tips. Here Volvo seems to be accustoming customers for the next-gen XC60 where there would be an all-electric powertrain.

The interior of the 2022 XC60 looks the same. However, there’s one big change that customers will appreciate. Volvo has swapped out the old infotainment system with one that runs Google’s Android operating system and supports over-the-air (OTA) updates. It’s possible to use the infotainment system with simple “Hey Google” voice commands.
With the improved XC60, Volvo Cars has introduced a new Digital Services Package that gives access to Google apps and services like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and many native in-car apps via Google Play. The data required for these features is included in the package. Depending on the market, the premium sound system is either a 1,100-watt, 15-speaker Bowers and Wilkins unit or a 600-watt, 13-speaker Harman Kardon unit.

Powertrain
For 2022, Volvo Cars has replaced the XC60’s T5 and T6 conventional gasoline engines in the U.S. with B5 and B6 mild-hybrid gasoline engines, respectively. Both the mild-hybrid engines get electrification through a new 48V system combined with a 13 hp Integrated Starter Generator. Moreover, while the T6 had a mechanical supercharger, the B6 has an electric supercharger, called E-Charger. Compare the specs of the B5 and B6 engines below:

2022 Volvo XC60 Hybrid (Plug-in)
Volvo Cars now offers the XC60 Hybrid in not one but two variants: Recharge and Recharge Extended Range. Recharge is the variant with the familiar 400 hp/472 lb.-ft. powertrain. Recharge Extended Range is new, with a 455 hp/523 lb.-ft. powertrain. Both use a 2.0L gasoline engine, but the newcomer has a punchier electric motor.
While the Recharge variant uses a 65 kW (87 hp) rear motor, the Recharge Extended Range variant employs a 107 kW (143 hp) rear motor. A bigger difference is that the former has an 11.6 kWh battery pack and the latter has a bigger, 18.8 kWh battery pack that consists of an additional, third layer of cells. The net or useable capacity of these battery packs is 9.1 kWh and 14.9 kWh, respectively. The Recharge variant can travel 19 miles in EV mode on a full charge, while the Recharge Extended Range provides a practical EV mode range of 36 miles.
