2022 Volkswagen Polo has scored an impressive 5-Star safety rating at the latest Euro-NCAP crash testing, with that, the new Volkswagen Polo has surpassed its predecessor by quite some margin in terms of safety.
According to the reports, the new Volkswagen Polo scored an impressive 35.9 points out of 38 points for adult occupant protection, this score roughly translates into 94.5 per cent. In addition to that, the hatchback has also scored 39.5 points out of 49 points for child occupant protection.
Diving into the details of the Euro-NCAP crash test, the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo scored 14.1 points out of the maximum scorable 16 points in the frontal impact test. However, the German hatchback scored maximum points for the lateral impact test. And scored 3.7 points out of 4 for the rear impact test.
Apart from that, the new 2022 Volkswagen polo also scored a very respectable 19.5 points out of 24 maximum available points in the crash test performance based on 6 to 10 year-old children that involved front and side impact.
Moreover, the overall safety for vulnerable road users was also tested and the 2022 Volkswagen Polo scored 38 points out of 54 points, which translates to 70 per cent of the maximum score that involved both pedestrians and cyclists.
However, this new 2022 Volkswagen Polo is not yet available in India as the hatchback is slightly longer than 4-metres. This is a ‘magic number’ for many automotive manufacturers in India as it involves various tax benefits and could affect the final pricing of the product by some margin.
Moreover, it was recently confirmed by Volkswagen that the new Polo hatchback won’t be coming to India despite the outgoing model getting phased out in the coming months.
Speaking about the outgoing model of Volkswagen Polo, the hatchback made its official debut in 2010 and went on sale in February that year. It is also the German brand’s most successful product in India in terms of volume by selling more than 2.5 lakh units to date.
Moreover, the German brand also launched the Polo GTI in India as a 2-door hatchback. This model came with a 1.8-litre TSI engine and produced 190bhp. However, this model was sold in limited numbers and was a fully imported CBU model. This meant that the 2-door hatchback was priced at an eye-watering 25.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
Apart from that, the Volkswagen Polo underwent a major heart transplant in March 2020, after the Volkswagen group completely ditched the diesel powerplants and introduced a new 1.0-litre engine. This engine was available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged guise. Moreover, the 7-speed DSG unit was replaced by a 6-speed torque convertor unit.
Thoughts About 2022 Volkswagen Polo
Like its predecessor, the 2022 Volkswagen Polo looks as if it has made a step up from its immediate predecessor. Too bad, the Volkswagen Polo in its latest iteration will not be making its way to the Indian shores anytime soon.
However, there is a possibility, Volkswagen may use the MQB-A0 IN platform to make a new hatchback or even introduce the Volkswagen Up hatchback in India. The latter will make more sense as it will give Volkswagen more volume sales than the Volkswagen Polo ever did.
