With the official launch now nearing reality, the all-new Mahindra Scorpio is now riding over expectations about how it will look and will be positioned in the segment. Here is a walk-around video of a fully-camouflaged unit of the new Mahindra Scorpio undergoing test runs, which gives us a few glimpses of what the new version of the SUV will look like in and out.
The video uploaded on the YouTube channel of “Team AutoTrend Channel” shows a fully-camouflaged new Mahindra Scorpio, with some of its details visible in parts. The new Scorpio looks longer and taller than the current-generation model.
While much of its panels and parts are covered by camouflage, it looks clear that the new Scorpio will come with a wide grille with tapered edges and vertical slats within it. It also has block-shaped headlamps having separate housings for low-beam projector and high-beam halogen lights.
The front bumper has a hint of aggressiveness in its design, as it comes with a wide-looking air dam with honeycomb inserts and rounded rectangular housings for the fog lamps. The bonnet also looks well-sculpted with curved sides and a raised hood in the middle.
Carries the design DNA forward
Coming to the side profile, the new Mahindra Scorpio retains the raised roof above the rear fender, which is a design trait of the current-generation model. The side window panels and rearview mirrors look large and complement the large stance of the SUV.
Unlike the XUV700, which comes with flush-type door handles as standard, the new Scorpio continues to feature pull-back type door handles. The new Scorpio also features 10-spoke alloy wheels and rounded wheel arches, with the possible inclusion of body mouldings over wheel arches and on the bottom of the door panels.
From the back, the new Mahindra Scorpio looks tall with a smaller-than-now rear windscreen and an almost vertical-looking boot lid with slightly lower-positioned license plate housing. Some parts of the tail lamp assembly are also visible, which hints that the new Scorpio will come with wraparound vertically-laid tail lamps like in the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6. This updated version also gets a roof-mounted spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp and a boot-mounted rear windscreen wiper.
Mahindra Scorpio cabin is all-new
The video also shows a few glimpses of the cabin of the new Scorpio, which has dual-tone black and brown upholstery. It gets features like a multi-functional flat-bottom steering wheel and a vertically-laid centre console with a touchscreen at the top and housing of buttons for the music system and automatic climate control in the lower half. The touchscreen is flanked by vertical AC vents in the centre console. The cabin also gets pillar-mounted grab rails for both driver and co-driver at the front.
Expect the new Mahindra Scorpio to come with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions, at the time of its launch.
