Volvo South Africa has announced that the all-electric XC40 P8 Recharge can be ordered from 10 May 2021.
“Orders will be open on 10 May, with deliveries commencing in August this year,” said the company.
According to Greg Maruszewski, managing director at Volvo South Africa, the company has worked hard to offer this luxury all-electric vehicle at a competitive price.
The result is a South African starting price of R1.2 million for the Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge.
Included in the price of every model is a Volvo Care Package – which consists of a 5-year warranty and maintenance plan, three years of insurance, use of a petrol car for two weeks per year for three years, and a home charger with cables.
Along with the price announcement, the company said that the P8 will only be available for purchase via the new My.Volvo online car store.
“This unique online store enables South Africans to purchase or rent a new car in as little as 20 minutes – and without leaving their home,” said Volvo.
XC40 P8 specs
The local configuration of the all-electric XC40 has not been confirmed yet, but its petrol-powered siblings – available in Momentum, Inscription, and R-Design trims – features a good base specification.
This includes upmarket fabric seats, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a leather multifunction steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch infotainment display.
Bluetooth, navigation, voice recognition, road sign recognition, and Volvo On Call – an app that will allow you to pre-condition your XC40 from your smartphone before getting inside – are also included.
Driving the P8 are twin electric motors that produce 304kW and 660Nm of torque.
The SUV accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds as a result, and offers a driving range of up to 418km.
Charging from 0-80% is achieved within 40 minutes – when the right plug is connected – and the lack of a petrol-powered engine allows an additional 30 litres of storage space below the bonnet.
“Volvo South Africa is also rolling out an extensive network of charging stations at its dealerships and, by the end of 2021, each Volvo dealership will have a charging station,” concludes Maruszewski.
