Activity at the French marque slips for the fourth year in a row but its EV deliveries are increasing.
Renault has announced sales for its flagship brand have fallen for the fourth consecutive year after selling 1,466,729 units in 2022, a drop of 9.4 per cent from 2021.
The French carmaker’s performance was affected by a constrained supply that resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic and supply chain challenges due to semi-conductor shortages.
It also notes last year’s figures exclude Russia sales, with activity in that market disrupted by the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Renault Group hopes higher-margin and electric vehicles (EVs) will drive growth in the future. It says the Renault brand, which accounts for two-thirds of group sales, was the third European brand for EV sales after selling 228,000 such units, up 12 per cent from 2021.
Full-hybrid sales at the marque have also increased, rising 64 per cent year-on-year to 117,000 units in 2022.
Renault’s latest figures also show activity in France, the company’s top market, fell by 15 per cent last year, while deliveries tumbled by 15 per cent in Germany.
Sales remained stable in Brazil, the marque’s number-two market, and it only managed to lift sales in two of its top 10 markets, with increases in Turkey and Colombia.
