French automaker Renault has teased the return of one of its most famous vehicles, the Renault 4, also known as the 4L, in a pair of silhouette images and the promise of “a modern tribute to the iconic Renault 4.”
Renault are looking back through their history to inspire their future, with yet another classic car “re-born” for a new era.
Set to make its debut on the opening day of the Paris Motor Show in October, Renault has promised a “brand-new show car that is a modern tribute to the iconic Renault 4.”
The original Renault 4 was one of the company’s most popular vehicles and an icon of the 70s and 80s. But Renault engineers have reportedly “given a modern twist to an iconic model”.

Renault has already promised the return of the Renault 5 as a hatchback which, according to company GM Luca De Meo, will be priced “accessible to all” and is due in 2024.
As is the way with such things, we know nothing more than whatever can be gleaned by the teaser silhouettes. But we can see that it won’t be as small as the original Renault 4, having instead evolved into a crossover, with noticeable off-road wheel arches, a taller ride height, and a roof rack.
