Kawasaki has revealed a new hybrid at this year’s EICMA show in Milan. Called the Z7 Hybrid, it follows the already revealed Ninja 7 Hybrid and shares the same powerplant as the sporty, sophisticated tourer. This is basically a naked Ninja 7 Hybrid.
Look inside the trellis chassis (shared with the Ninja hybrid) and you’ll find a familiar set up: the ICE or internal combustion engine part of the Kawasaki consists of a 451cc twin, but in this bike it’s aided by a 9kW electric motor.
Just like the Ninja 7 Hybrid, the 7 Hybrid gives riders get a choice of three modes. First, there’s a city-friendly, electric-only mode with an automatic transmission and range of just 12km. Next, riders can switch to an Eco-Hybrid mode (in which the internal combustion and electric motor work together) although riders can choose between full auto and a six-speed paddle-triggered gears.
Finally, a Sport mode squeezes as much performance as possible out of the 7 Hybrid’s two power sources – and there’s an additional e-Boost function (triggered by a paddle switch on the right handlebar) which gives all the power possible in a five second burst.
The Z 7 Hybrid will be available in two colours, and you can see both in the gallery above.
