Yamaha India showcases R3, MT-03, R7, MT-07, MT-09, and R1 M

Yamaha India recently showcased an array of models at a dealer conference. It displayed the R3, R7, MT-03, MT-07, and MT-09, alongside the flagship R1 M, hinting at their probable launch sometime this year. As a matter of fact, the brand used to sell a handful of its premium motorcycles in the country, such as the previous generation R3 and R1 M. Now, going by the recent dealer event, Yamaha appears to be readying not only the long-awaited R3 and R1 M for the Indian market but also other hotly anticipated models from its portfolio.

Yamaha R3 and MT-03: Details
The Yamaha R3 is one of the highly-anticipated 300cc segment motorcycles in India. It comes powered by a 321cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine producing 42PS and 29.5Nm of torque. It gets KYB upside-down front forks, a fully digital instrument cluster, a rear monoshock, and a single-disc setup at both ends. Upon launch, it will compete against likes of the KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400.

On the other hand, the MT-03 is somewhat identical to the R3 in terms of electronics, mechanicals, and powertrain but is a naked motorcycle. Moreover, it is powered by the same 321, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder DOHC motor as the R3. In this case, the MT-03’s engine makes the same 42PS but 29.6Nm of torque (0.1Nm more than its fully faired sibling.

Yamaha R7, MT-07 and MT-09: Highlights
The Yamaha R7 and MT-07 share the same 689cc, liquid-cooled, two-cylinder DOHC engine generating 73.4PS at 8,750rpm and 67Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. This motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Both motorcycle feature adjustable link-tyre rear monoshock, assist and slipper clutch, dual disc brakes at the front and a single-disc setup at the back, fully adjustable inverted front forks (R7), five-inch colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity, all-LED lights, and more. Once launched, the MT-07 will take on the Triumph Trident 660 and Kawasaki Z650, while the R7 will rival the Ninja 650 and Honda CBR 650R.

The MT-09 gets an 890cc, liquid-cooled, inline-three-cylinder engine generating 119PS at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. In terms of features, Yamaha has equipped the MT-09 with a 6-axis IMU, three-mode traction control, slide control system, wheelie control system, and brake control, among others. In addition, the streetfighter is outfitted with a colour TFT instrument console, adjustable front and rear suspension, 298mm dual disc brake setup, and assist and slipper clutch. Meanwhile, the MT-09 will compete against the Triumph Street Triple and Kawasaki Z900 in India.

Yamaha R1 M: Details
Yamaha’s flagship R1 M is one of the most popular supersport bikes in the world. This track-focussed monster features a 998cc, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC mill that delivers a staggering 200PS at 13,500rpm and 113.3Nm of torque at 11,500rpm. Yamaha has given it all the bells and whistles, such as Ohlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS), ride-by-wire, launch control, Ohlins NPX rear monoshock, engine brake management, and quickshifter, among others.
