The Ford EcoSport, in all its derivatives, has been a staple of teh Ford lineup for many years. As global production scales down, the pintsize crossover is making way for a new and exciting model, the Puma.
As the bevy of EcoSports in our market make their way onto the used market we wanted to see which of the engine options available is the most efficient. Ford offers 3 engines in the EcoSport range of which two are petrol and one is a diesel.

The frugal yet torquey 1.5-litre TDCi turbodiesel engine remains part of the line-up, offered in Ambiente trim, linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. This 4-cylinder engine delivers impressive performance and economy.
Verdict
We can’t tell you whether you should get a diesel or a petrol. The choice of engine ultimately depends on your monthly running of a car. We can, however, say the 1.0-litre EcoBoost does have the best figures here and the variants powered by this engine are specced well. Also, a petrol vehicle offers a smoother driving experience than a diesel variant. If on average you’re travelling more than 1500km a month then consider the diesel variant in terms of fuel efficiency.
