Hennessey Performance put the off-roader to the test on a Dynojet chassis dyno.
The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is one of the most capable factory off-roaders that you can buy today. That won’t stop the aftermarket experts at Hennessey Performance from trying to find a bit more oomph hidden inside the truck’s 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6, however. The Texas-based tuners have just taken delivery of a Braptor, and we can finally get an idea of what sort of power this thing puts to the ground by way of a dyno test.
According to Ford, the Bronco Raptor’s EcoBoost powertrain is capable of laying down 418 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque. That’s quite a bit more than the 2.7-liter equipped models, which provide just 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Every Bronco Raptor is also equipped with Ford’s 10R80 10-speed automatic gearbox, just like the F-150 model that it borrows its name from. That bit of hardware actually creates a little bit of an issue when it comes to getting precise dyno figures, thanks in part to how the ratios are spaced.
As Hennessey Performance’s Dallin Shillig noted in the comments of this clip, the shop has to dyno every Raptor product in 5th gear due to the vehicle’s factory-supplied speed limiter. In the case of the Braptor, that tire-dictated speed limit is just 114 mph. Using 7th gear would be preferred, as that is the 1:1 gear in the set, whereas 5th is a 1.52:1. Regardless, the team still strapped the 4×4 onto their Dynojet chassis dyno to get an idea of what the baseline performance truly is.
Keeping the gearing in mind, the Bronco Raptor was able to lay down figures of 323 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. That figure would be a bit higher if the proper gear could have been used, but it isn’t terribly far off of typical drivetrain losses.
The team is apparently confident that they can get more out of the 3.0-liter EcoBoost, as they’ve already announced their Bronco VelociRaptor 500 package. This brings an upgraded intercooler, a high-flow exhaust, reworked engine management and a tune, which Hennessey says will deliver 500 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. For reference, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost in the F-150 Raptor produces 450 hp and 515 lb-ft of torque from the factory.
The VelociRaptor 500 package isn’t cheap however, ringing in at $32,950. Considering Ford Performance just released its own tunes for the standard Bronco lineup, we’d expect a similar treatment to arrive for the Raptor before too much longer. We’re pretty sure that it would cost a lot less, too.
