Despite being the OG luxury MPV in Japan, the Nissan Elgrand’s popularity did not last for very long. Rivals like the came along and ruined its party, relegating the Elgrand to the rear seat.
But if rumours from Japan are to be believed, the Alphard may soon need to watch its back as Nissan is said to be developing an all-new, fourth-generation Elgrand.

If true, then it would be a long-overdue upgrade, seeing that the current-generation Nissan Elgrand has been around since 2010. Over the year, Nissan has given this ageing MPV numerous updates, with the most recent update in October 2020.
Like recently-launched Nissan models in Japan, the upcoming, next-generation Nissan Elgrand is said be feature a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol-electric e-Power series hybrid powertrain first seen in the T33 Nissan X-Trail.

The engine is good for 144 PS and 250 Nm, while its BM46 electric motor does 204 PS and 330 Nm. Being a series-hybrid, the electric motor is the one that drives the wheels; the petrol engine is used to solely charge the high-voltage battery.
Like the X-Trail, a 4WD version dubbed e-4ORCE could be offered on the next-generation Nissan Elgrand.
