South African roads are dangerous enough as it is. That’s without things like drunk drivers and a street racer putting our lives more at risk. Three people have been left injured in KwaZulu-Natal after an illegal street race went horribly wrong. Those on the side of the road watching the race ended up in the most trouble.
Durban street racer collides with car and crowd
The incident happened at the intersection of Umgeni Road and Intersite Avenue in Durban just before midnight on Sunday morning.
According to paramedics who arrived on the scene. One person was left critically injured and had to be stabalised before being rushed to the hospital. Three people were injured in total.
“Two vehicles were found to have collided at high speed and high impact, with one of the vehicles leaving the roadway and ploughing into a crowd of people. Reports from the scene are that two people (now three) were left injured, one critically so. They were treated and stabilized on the scene, before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
“It is alleged that the incident is related to illegal Street racing activities in the area, however this is speculative and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.”

According to anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee. The road involved has been used for years for illegal drag racing.
In the video, one can see the collision take place from several different angles. The one car appears to be attempting to do “doughnuts” when the other car slams into it at speed. One of the vehicles is then flung into the crowd of people. It is not clear from the video who exactly is the street racer, or if all the vehicles were involved.
