This 1964 Corvette racer spent some time at Willow Creek in its heyday, but after decades in storage, it needs help.
The Chevrolet Corvette has always been a popular vehicle for even amateur racers thanks to its impressive performance. Thus, we’re always interested to see older racing Corvettes that managed to survive that grueling lifestyle, which many did not. However, this 1964 Corvette Racer we spotted on eBay has made it through years of abuse on the track, though it’s obviously worse for wear with plenty of battle scars. Regardless, it’s a cool old piece of history that deserves to be saved.
The seller acquired the 1964 Corvette racer from the previous owner around a year ago, and that person had owned the car since 1978 until they decided to part ways with it. It seems that the seller realized how much work the C2 needs and is giving up, though that creates a prime opportunity for someone else. What’s particular interesting about it, however, is the fact that this ’64 was raced extensively at the legendary Willow Springs Raceway in California.
We can envision it reliving those glory days via any number of vintage racing events, but first, someone will need to get it back in fighting shape. Currently, the car is quite complete and in its original racing configuration, and even comes with a set of vintage black California license plates. The seller hasn’t tried to turn over the Corvette’s 327 cubic-inch V8, which is attached to an automatic gearbox, but the car has reportedly been in storage since 1988.
Personally, we wouldn’t go too crazy with a restoration here, as there are some cool features worth preserving. For starters, the previous owner has stickers from a number of events on the glovebox, while the body is fitted with some popular modifications from this period, including a revised front end with exposed headlights, wider fender flares, a new tail section, and side exhaust pipes.
One could presumably buy this car, get it running, give it a paint job, clean up the interior and have a cool and fun ride to take out to any number of vintage racing events. And to us, that makes it a pretty enticing offering in a world where nice, stock early Corvettes are being priced out of the range of the average person.
