This is painful to watch.
Taking delivery of a classic 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible should be a joyous occasion but, for one owner, it quickly turned into a nightmare when his precious classic sports car rolled off a car transporter, crashing into the tarmac.
The video, first posted to TikTok, has since gone viral and shows the cream-colored 'Vette ready to disembark. The driver of the transporter can be seen placing a chock behind the left rear wheel, but that's not enough to stop the Chevy from flying off the ramp.
As you'd expect, social media users have criticized the driver for this. Watch closely, however, and you'll notice the Corvette's left rear wheel simply glides over the chock. Still, there should have been other contingencies in place. With an almighty crash, the sleek and immaculately preserved body work smashes into the road.
Horrified at what happened, the driver can be heard expressing frustration.

“Come on, man! [Expletive]. It rolled right over the [expletive] chock.”
The rear bumper takes the brunt of the impact, with the front wheels following shortly after. One of the hubcaps pops off from the violent thud and forces the trunk lid open. Video footage shows us the extent to which this once-pristine Corvette was damaged.
The fiberglass bodywork has been cracked at the rear, while the chrome-plated numberplate bracket took the brunt of the impact. That's just the visible cosmetic damage, though, and it's safe to assume the '62 Corvette suffered damage to its body-on-frame chassis and various suspension components.
While the situation is far from ideal, at least the new owner has video proof of what happened and can hopefully claim from the shipping company's insurance.
While we can't be 100% sure, the vehicle in the video bears a striking resemblance to a C2 Corvette (pictured below) that sold on Bring A Trailer in late February.
Not only is it the same model year, but the cream paintwork and red leather match the damaged example in the video.
The lack of license plates makes it difficult to confirm, but additional details such as the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) sticker on the windscreen (and another label on the soft top) lead us to believe it's the same car. If that's the case, it's even more painful, as the owner paid $111,000 for this restored classic. For perspective, that's more than the MSRP of a new Corvette Z06.
Sadly, these things happen all too often. In 2021, a Jaguar F-Type was also caught rolling off a car carrier, slamming into the road before crashing into a parked Silverado. Last year, a brand new Range Rover was destroyed after the truck it was being transported on hit a bridge, tearing the roof off the luxury SUV.
