2022 Ford Focus: what is it?
You probably don’t need us to explain what the Ford Focus is: chances are you’ve either owned one, know someone who owns one, or been driven in one at some point in your life.
For anyone from the planet Mars, the Focus is Ford’s mega-selling hatchback which competes with models like the Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra. The current generation is being readied for a midlife facelift to keep it competitive in a fast-paced segment.
The model our photographers have captured is the more rugged Active version, obvious from the plastic cladding around the wheels. It still gives us a good idea of how the rest of the range will look because apart from that cladding and a slightly higher ride height, the Active looks exactly the same as the standard hatchback.
We can see the headlights have been slimmed down, and the grille has changed shape. The front bumper is also new with re-designed air intakes. It’s a similar story at the back, where the lights have become narrower and the bumper has been reshaped.
While we couldn’t snatch any images of the interior it’s expected the new Focus will be offered with a bigger infotainment system and a digital instrument display, at least in higher trim models, to bring it in like with the Kuga SUV, with which it shares a platform.
2022 Ford Focus: what is it powered by?
It’s not thought at this point that the new Focus will get the plug-in hybrid tech offered on the Kuga, although that could change.
At the moment we expect the engine line-up will remain more or less unchanged, which means customers will be able to choose from a couple of mild hybrid petrol engines, at least two diesel options, and the standard 1.0-litre turbo EcoBoost petrol engine.
There will also be a choice of a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox, as well as the hatchback, estate and Active body shapes.
2022 Ford Focus: when will it be on sale?
We’ve been seeing spy shots of the new Focus emerge since early in the year, which means it will not be far off its full reveal.
Order books could open before the end of 2021, but it’s more likely that we’ll see the Focus in showrooms early next year.
2022 Ford Focus: how much will it cost?
This is only a facelift which, traditionally, doesn’t see much of a markup in price. Prices for the current Focus start at just over £22,000, so the new model is likely to start around £24,000.
