British tuning company Mountune, best known to Australians for a recent partnership with Ford for the Focus and Fiesta, is officially making Australia its newest base of operations.
Still headquartered in Essex in England, Mountune has confirmed a new “service and logistics facility” in Tasmania will allow the company to properly service customers in Australia and New Zealand.
The company focuses on upgrades for models from Ford (mostly its European models) and Volkswagen Group, particularly hot hatches like the Focus and Fiesta, Golf GTI and R, and the Audi S3.
Previous examples of kits the company has built include an upgrade for the Mk7.5 Golf GTI, which gave the hot hatch a 103kW power lift and a 140Nm torque increase from 180kW/370Nm to 283kW/510Nm or a kit that brought the Ford Focus ST, when it was still around up, from 206kW/420Nm to 234kW/515Nm.
As well as being a tuning company, Mountune is involved in motorsport, with a car running in the British Touring Car Championship.
Mountune’s founder David Mountain said it’s “delightful” to make the expansion into Australia and NZ official with a new facility.
“Having already had a long-standing relationship with customers in the region – as well as a period where our upgrade packages were imported and endorsed by Ford Australia dealers – establishing a physical base ‘down under’ was the natural next step.”
The Australia and NZ division of Mountune will be headed up by Tom Wallace who Mountain said has “an impressive and extensive track record in the performance industry”.
“This move will enable Mountune to reach more customers than ever before in our key markets of Australia and New Zealand – both areas with significant and passionate performance car communities.”
Wallace said that the focus would be on “building a strong fitment and support program” through dealers who stock Mountune products.
“Working with such an iconic brand with a rich history in the automotive and racing industry is a privilege. In setting up Australian operations we can improve on our overall customer experience which is paramount to our values.”
The company’s Australian website is already up and running, listing everything from induction kits made from carbon fibre, to tuning flashes for the Audi S3.
