The typical formula for special editions is to apply some badges, add special exterior and interior trim, and call it a day. The 2022 Bronco Everglades special edition has these elements, but it goes further with functional changes to enhance its off-road capability.
With the Everglades, Ford has done the work of building up a Bronco for serious off-road excursions. The included Sasquatch Package gives it a high-riding stance, and the front-bumper winch is rated to 10,000 pounds. The new air-intake snorkel is part of the reason the Bronco Everglades is capable of fording up to 3 feet of water, about 3 inches more than a Sasquatch’d Bronco sans Everglades.
One Everglades change that’s easy to overlook is the new wheel arches, which have an angular shape and matching fender extensions instead of the regular Bronco’s rounded wheel openings. It’s a subtle difference but one that works well with the Bronco’s boxy styling.
Apart from some subtle accents, the interior of the Everglades is very similar to other Broncos. The seating surfaces are vinyl for easier cleaning, but the material has a soft, premium feel befitting a pricey SUV like the Everglades.
There’s been a resurgence in both truly capable off-road SUVs like the Bronco as well as off-road-oriented trims of family SUVs, some of which are more about rugged looks than capability. I’ve driven the Bronco Wildtrak with the Sasquatch Package, but I’m not sure I’d want it as a daily driver because its off-road focus requires too many sacrifices in everyday livability. The Bronco Everglades will likely impose the same penalties, but perhaps the calculus is different if you live in a swamp.
