According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fuel injector may crack in the Escape and Bronco Sport models equipped with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine.
It could allow the fuel of fuel vapors to leak on warm parts of the vehicles and start a fire. Ford is currently aware of 20 fires related to this issue, but no injuries.
You can still continue driving your SUV because Ford believes only a small number will be affected by this problem. However, a stop-sale has been issued for 2023 vehicles until a fix can be found. This is delaying people from getting their new vehicles.
What happens if my Bronco Sport or Escape is at risk?
If your Ford Bronco Sport or Ford Escape is at risk Ford will contact you via mail beginning on December 19, 2022. You’ll need to visit the Ford dealership for a software update that will detect a cracked fuel injector.
If the injector is cracked that a warning sign will appear on the dash, and the engine power will be reduced so you can safely pull over and call for service. Ford will install a new tube that drains fuel away from hot surfaces free of charge.

How long is the wait for a 2023 Bronco Sport?

Typically, it takes about 40 days or roughly five to six weeks to build a 2023 Ford Bronco Sport model. This is also the best-case scenario if the manufacturing and delivery process goes well after submitting your order to the Ford dealership.
New Bronco Sport models are expected to arrive by the end of the year, but due to this new fire risk, some orders are being pushed back to the first quarter of 2023.
Also, the Bronco Sport factories have been facing delays. Production was recently delayed until the first week of December. The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage and other supply chain constraints have been causing trouble for the Bronco Sport.
However, you may get your 2023 Ford Bronco Sport faster by changing engine options. The fire risk isn’t related to the more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It provides 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.
The 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine cranks out 180 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. So, the increase in power is noticeable. But the 2.0-liter engine only comes with the Bronco Sport Badlands model, which starts at $37,340. The entry-level trim beings at around $29,215.
