It’s clear that Mazda can’t stop and won’t stop, and that’s fine. We’re here to celebrate all of the new Mazda SUVs on the way. While the Mazda CX-50 currently has the spotlight, the 2023 Mazda CX-60 isn’t far behind.

Mazda has something new for us to zoom-zoom about every time we turn around! We’re not even over the Mazda CX-50 yet, and now we’re being teased with the 2023 Mazda CX-60 PHEV.
It’s one of the many hybrids and electric vehicles that Mazda plans to provide. But we can’t get too excited yet. The Mazda CX-60 is a compact option designed for countries like Japan, where smaller vehicles are more popular.
So, we’re getting the Mazda CX-70 in America instead. This isn’t bad news. It’s based on the CX-60, only it’s a bit taller and wider. Now we get to evaluate the CX-60 PHEV for clues about the CX-70.
What to expect with the 2023 CX-60
The 2023 Mazda CX-60 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid that uses gas and electricity. The hybrid systems by Mazda could be paired with an inline-six powertrain, and it rides on a rear-wheel-drive platform. We can speculate that the new Mazda CX-60 will be fast, sporty, and fuel-efficient based on this information.
According to Motor Authority, Mazda confirmed that the hybrid powertrain used the 2.5-liter inline-four engine with an electric motor to crank out 300 hp. It will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and AWD will be available.
The CX-50 is more of an SUV for those with active lifestyles. It shares a front-wheel-drive platform with the Mazda CX-30. It’s expected to be a little more rugged than the CX-70. While the CX-50 goes off-roading, the CX-70 will deliver a premium, engaging experience around town.
As the CX-60 serves as the first Mazda PHEV, it won’t be alone for long. It will be followed by the three-row Mazda CX-80. We will get an even larger model known as the Mazda CX-90 in the United States.
These four new vehicles have been engineered to accommodate PHEV powertrains and more. The new family line-up also features new straight-six gasoline and diesel engines. Best of all, the beefier engines are expected to arrive in America.
When will we know more about the Mazda CX-60?

The 2023 Mazda CX-60 will be revealed online on March 8. This is when we will see the vehicle and learn if it’s coming to America. Even if we don’t get the CX-60 over here, we’re still getting the CX-70 and CX-90. Plus, a new Mazda6 is on the way for sedan fans.
We can tell from spy shots that the hood is longer than the Mazda CX-50‘s, which makes sense as a sportier crossover. It has the familiar Mazda-shaped grille and matching headlights, but thin LED lights make it stand out.
It seems like Mazda is working to please a diverse customer base. The CX-50 will let Mazda fans go off-roading farther than before, the CX-60 is one attractive sporty ride, and the CX-90 will have more family space. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of each new model.
