Jeep wasn’t playing when it created two new full-sized SUVs to take on the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Chevy Tahoe, and Cadillac Escalade. The automaker brought back two iconic nameplates for this purpose: the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. They’re essentially the same SUV, but their equipment, powertrain, and trim levels differ.
These SUVs have one feature Consumer Reports testers claim is the best they’ve ever seen: the third-row seating. Why did it earn this acclaim? And what else does the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer offer?

Consumer Reports testers are evaluating the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, as they do many vehicles each year. And they’re so impressed with one element of the full-size SUV that they made a TikTok video about it. CR’s testers say the new Wagoneer has the best third-row seating they’ve ever seen.
They start by explaining that Jeep kept the floor height in the back of the vehicle very low. The positioning of the seat versus the floor provides better seat posture and more comfort.
How did Jeep accomplish it? Upon examining the underpinnings, CR said the Wagoneer was built on the same platform as the Ram 1500. Jeep modified it to give an independent rear suspension, and the frame stays flat from front to back. The result is plenty of space and a comfortable place to sit in the third row for up to three adults.

Aside from the extraordinary third row, the rest of the cabin in the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has plenty to offer.
The infotainment system has a 10.1-inch touchscreen mounted at the center of the dash. And the digital gauge display is 10.25 inches behind the steering wheel for easy viewing.
The standard Uconnect 5 system provides wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with all the things you’d expect from a good infotainment system. A digital rearview mirror, a full-color head-up display, and night-vision capability are all available.
In addition, the tri-zone climate system offers physical controls. The rotary gear selector knob is positioned at the front of the center console. Conveniently positioned around it is an assortment of four-wheel-drive and various other drive modes if they come with the selected model.
In front of the gear selector is a row of buttons for things like hazard lights, parking sensors, traction, and more.
Also, the latest Jeep Wagoneer offers ports for USB Type-A and Type-C for the front and the back. The HDMI input can be accessed in a bin up front.
The front seats are 12-way power-adjustable for comfort with a four-way adjustable head restraint standard. Plus, the front and second-row seats are heated and ventilated.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer powertrain and safety features
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer packs a 5.7-liter V8 harnessing 392 hp and has standard rear-wheel drive. The engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It has towing capabilities up to 10,000 pounds when properly equipped.
You also get the eTorque 48-volt mild-hybrid start/generator motor, according to Consumer Reports. It’s very much like the setup used in the Ram 1500. With it, the engine can be turned off during idling situations. Restarts are quick and easy when you’re ready to go again. Though you can use regular 87-octane gas in the Wagoneer, Jeep recommends 89 octane.
As for advanced safety features, forward collision warning comes standard, along with automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic warnings are standard too. And rear parking assist sensors will stop the vehicle to avoid a collision.
The 2022 Wagoneer features Jeep’s Hands-Free Active Driving Assist, which gives you hands-free driving at any speed on approved roads. There’s also an available system with a camera and radar sensors that scan for approaching vehicles coming in from the left and right at intersections. The system will alert the driver of a possible collision with audible and visible alerts. If the driver doesn’t respond by a certain time, the system will automatically activate the brakes.
