Information regarding the lifecycles of two Jeep models, namely the Wrangler and Gladiator (among others), has been released in Stellantis’ UAW agreement document and has highlighted the arrival of a next-generation all-electric model closer to 2030.

In the UAW agreement (which has yet to be ratified by UAW members in Jeep Dodge, Ram and Chrysler), Stallantis revealed that its current-generation Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models will continue production at the Toledo Assembly complex into 2028. Additionally, the PHEV Wrangler and Gladiator models will be “upgraded” in 2025.
Most notably, Stellantis has revealed that the next-generation Wrangler, codenamed J70, will be introduced in 2028 as a BEV and REPB (Range Electric Paradigm Breaker). Stellantis will produce a REPB model of the upcoming RAM 1500, which is differentiated from a regular BEV by using its engine revving at certain speeds to charge the battery to provide more range. This investment by Stellantis into the Toledo Assembly Complex equates to $1,5 billion (R27 billion).

The Detroit Assembly Complex received a similarly sized investment and will oversee the production of the current-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (2-row and 3-row models), which will continue through 2027 and 2028, respectively. Furthermore, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will see its next-generation form debut in 2027 in ICE-powered and battery-electric vehicle configurations. As for electric vehicle powertrains, the global automotive conglomerate says it will invest $900 million (roughly R16 million based on current exchange rates) in its Indiana Transmission facility, which is tasked with the implementation and production of its Electric Drive Motor Gear machining and assembly technology from 2024 and a launch of its e-Motor Assembly in 2026.
