Taipei AMPA, Autotronics Taipei And Motorcycle Taiwan 2020 To Show Latest Trends In Automotive Industry

The Taipei AMPA, AutoTronics Taipei, and Motorcycle Taiwan 2020 (or just Taipei AMPA 3-in-1 for short), will be happening this April 15 – 18. In the run-up to the trade show, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council), the show organizer held seminars in Taipei to introduce the latest trends in the automotive industry. In one of the seminars, guest speakers touched on the latest updates on electric vehicles, including battery technology, storage and standards.

Ko Chi-ho, Chairman of Masterhold Int’l Co., Ltd, Po-chiang Shen, Project Manager of Phihong Technology Co., Ltd., James Hsiao, Senior Researcher at Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and Evan Mo, Project Manager at Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) presented to industry members on the latest updates on electric vehicles and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) developments, among other topics.

Chairman Ko, who is also the Vice President of the Taiwan Battery Association, mentioned that with world moving towards electric vehicles, car batteries would be the next dominant product in the automotive electronics sector. As such, there will be increasing demand for efficient lithium ion batteries with high storage capacity and safety features and this will be driving the direction of the market. Project Manager Shen also brought up that recent investments in the ISO15118 vehicle-to-grid (V2G) developments and plug-in stations will have electric vehicles move towards being an energy storage system and provider. He also encouraged the industry to adopt the Open Charge Point Protocol standards to allow all battery brands the capability and convenience of charging up at all stations. Meanwhile, Senior Researcher Hsiao cautioned attendees that the ongoing US-China trade war could impact molds, electronics and battery products, and mentioned the ASEAN market as an alternative. Hsiao cites Thailand (the largest car assembling nation), Indonesia (the largest automotive market), Malaysia (with its national car projects), Vietnam (the largest importer of parts and accessories), and the Philippines (E-tricycle development) as examples of the opportunities in the ASEAN region, as well as potential high demand for electric vehicles in India due to its vast urban sprawl development. Project Manager Mo also strongly encouraged everyone to exhibit at AMPA and utilize the vast advantages of growing their respective businesses.

The Taipei AMPA 3-in-1 show will be held from 15 to 18 April, 2020 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 and 2. About 1,450 exhibitors will be displaying their automotive wares and services in 3,850 exhibition booths. An estimated 7,500 international buyers are expected to in Taipei for this event, continuing its upward trend in attendance and scale. The theme for this year’s show is “C.A.S.E” – Connected, Autonomous, Services & shared, and Electric.

Among the exhibitors will be car sensor and lithium ion battery producers such as Cub Elecparts and Mobiletron Electronics; electric vehicle motors, batteries and charging station developers Cheng Chang Machine Electronic and Phihong Technology; and intelligent transportation system and solution developers Elitegroup Computer Systems and Askey Computer Corporation. Additionally, BMW Motorrad, Deltran, Narida, PTT Oil & Retail, are some of the current 28 international exhibitors from 8 countries, with more expected to sign up.

Malaysia will also have a national pavilion for the first time in four years, while South Korea continues to expand its national pavilion to accommodate even more Korean exhibitors.
