Jeep is a brand recognised the world over for its hardy 4×4 vehicles but now it can claim to offer a similarly robust product in the e-bike market. The American off-road specialists have teamed up with Colorado-based e-bike manufacturers QuietKat to create a full suspension electric mountain bike that has been designed to tackle any terrain thrown its way.
Featuring specialist Fire-Link suspension system with 150mm travel at the front and rear and four piston hydraulic disc brakes, the tough components allow for maximum control on steep descents and hard to navigate terrain. All of this is hung on QuietKat’s “Fat Tire’ platform that has been proven to work on snow, gravel, sand and much more.
Powering the beast is an industry-leading BAFANG Ultra-Drive 750W motor, which delivers a serious 150Nm of torque either through a pedal assist system or via a removable thumb shift, so riders can treat it more like an electric motorcycle than a typical pedal bike.
According to its maker, the motor and battery pack are good for 30-60 miles of hard off-road riding, with said battery packs integrated into the frame so they can easily be removed to charge or swapped for a fresh pack.
It’s a hefty unit, weighing in at around 36kg, but the mighty electric motor can easily transport riders and detachable gear for at least 30 miles before running out of juice. Better still, the removable thumb throttle means it is compliant, in the USA at least, with pedal assist electric street bikes.
Only available in Jeep Green, the bike costs between $5,899 (£4,429) and $6,177 (£4,638) depending on the frame size and can be specified with a remote dropper seat post for an additional fee. However, there’s no current plan to offer this in the UK.
