The third and final week of pre-Pokemon GO Fest 2020 Timed Research Challenges have arrived and will give players some sweet rewards upon completion. The focus of this week’s challenges is friendship and will require you to play with your Buddy. Those who have played the game for a while now may have seen Buddy challenges before as well, but in case you’ve forgotten or don’t know what to do let’s quickly go over how to play with your Buddy in Pokemon GO.
How to Play With Your Buddy in Pokemon GO
To complete your Timed Research Task and play with a Buddy, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps. Doing so will require your AR camera though, so hopefully that’s in working order. Thankfully, it isn’t very hard and will only take a few seconds of your time to complete. In the steps below, we’ll explain exactly how to play with your Buddy in Pokemon GO.
- Select the picture of your Buddy in the bottom left corner of your screen
- Tap “Play!”
- With your AR camera, find an open space for you and your Buddy to play
- Move your finger back and forth on your Pokemon until they react
See, we told you it wasn’t very hard! If you’re working through the week three Timed Research Challenges before Pokemon GO Fest 2020, one of the first tasks will be as simple as playing with your Buddy Pokemon to get a Pinap Berry reward. Others will task you with walking with a Buddy or earning hearts with them. To earn a heart with a buddy, you’ll need to feed them treats and fill up their hunger meter. When it fills up, you’ll receive an affection heart. The week three Timed Research challenge began on Friday, July 17 and will expire on July 22 at 10 PM local time, so be sure to complete them sooner rather than later.

All that being said, in all likelihood future tasks will require players to play with a Buddy so if you’re reading this at a later date, the process is still the same! Playing with your Buddy in Pokemon GO is a quick and easy process, so be sure to check it off the list if you have it as a challenge.
Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will be held virtually on July 25 and 26. Those that are interested in attending can purchase a ticket to the event and participate in the Day 1 and Day 2 challenges, and maybe even earn a new Mythical Pokemon.
