The Formula 1 race calendar for 2023 has been finalized, and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) confirmed that it would be running a shorter 23-race series instead of the usual 24.
This is because, for the third year in a row, the championship has had to amend its calendar owing to Covid-19 restrictions.
China was meant to be one of the hosts next year, but consistent Covid-19 lockdowns have raised many doubts about whether the event will be affected if it does take place there in 2023.

There were hopes that South Africa would be one of the countries to host the famous motorsport championship next year, with rumours that a 5-year contract had been signed for the event to make an appearance at the Kyalami Raceway in Gauteng.
Russia’s removal from the series and China’s zero-tolerance Covid policies also meant that there were gaps in the 2023 line-up that South Africa looked poised to fill.
Unfortunately, this turned out not to be the case, with the major reason cited being that extensive renovations would need to be done at Kyalami to bring the track up to modern F1 standards.
Instead, the current hope is that the track will be ready in time for a 2024 slot, which could make it the first time that Formula 1 made an appearance in the country since 1993.
