Nissan is recalling more than 100,000 older Rogue SUVs in Canada because a problem with the wiring may pose a fire risk in some vehicles.
In Canada, 104,464 examples of the Nissan Rogue from model years 2014 through 2016 are affected; the total in North America is 793,410 vehicles. The Rogue is the brand’s most popular model on both sides of the border.
On affected vehicles, water can seep into a wiring connector near the driver’s feet, causing corrosion. If this happens, the driver’s power seat or windows may be disabled, the all-wheel-drive warning light may come on, or possibly even drain the battery.
Each of these issues can also lead to a fire; Nissan has received seven reports of such “thermal events,” though it has not heard of any injuries related to the defect.
The automaker suggests owners who notice any of the above issues, or who see smoke or smell a burning odour, park their vehicles outdoors and have their Rogue towed to a dealership via Nissan Roadside Assistance.
The automaker is hoping to devise a fix for the issue by this spring.
