Nissan Motor India has inaugurated its new corporate headquarters. Based in Gurugram, the new corporate HQ of Nissan India will manage key functions including sales, marketing, aftersales, finance, human resources, and even corporate communications. This is a big positive step from Nissan in India after the discontinuation of the Datsun brand.
Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd was founded back in 2005 as the Indian subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co Ltd, Japan. As its Indian arm, Nissan India was responsible for all operations in the Indian market. It started off with the launch of the brilliant X-Trail SUV back in 2005. Then came the Nissan Teana which was a great premium sedan segment contender.
Nissan India also launched a few legendary cars like the GT-R and the 370Z. However, these premium cars didn’t really perform very well in terms of sales, and most of them were discontinued. Over the years, Nissan also introduced quite a few practical cars like the Micra, Evalia, Sunny, Terrano, etc.
In 2014, Nissan brought its budget-friendly brand Datsun to the Indian market. Datsun arrived with the Go and Go+ which did sell in reasonable numbers. Its Redi-Go hatchback which was introduced in 2016 too performed decently in terms of sales. However, it wasn’t enough to keep the brand afloat in the Indian market.
Earlier this year, Nissan India announced that it was pulling the plug on the Datsun brand in India and sales stopped almost immediately. The aforementioned practical cars made by Nissan too are discontinued. Nissan India currently sells only the Magnite sub-compact crossover SUV, the Kicks premium compact SUV, and the legendary Nissan GT-R in the Indian market.
Despite what seems like a disastrous ending, Nissan Motor India has pretty big plans for the Indian market, with the launch of newer models in the pipeline. Also, the brand’s Oragadam plant in Tamil Nadu is functioning at capacity, producing cars like the Nissan Magnite, Nissan Kicks, Renault Kwid, and Renault Kiger.
Now, the inauguration of the new corporate headquarters in Gurugram heralds the arrival of better times for Nissan India. It is located in Worldmark Gurugram which is a new thriving commercial and leisure hub.
The new corporate headquarters features flexible workstations, which helps drive an innovative ecosystem. It even boasts high-tech video conferencing facilities to communicate with other facilities of Nissan India.
Frank Torres, President of Nissan India was quoted as saying, “This new office fuels an atmosphere of positivity, innovation, and teamwork. Nissan India’s new office will continue to build on our philosophy of people first and encourage our employees to foster ideas that drive innovation.”
