The next-generation Nissan Patrol is said to be following the Toyota Land Cruiser’s lead in dropping the V8 engine for a turbocharged V6 all in the name of fuel efficiency and emissions.
Just as Toyota dropped the V8 engine in the current Land Cruiser 300, Nissan is reportedly going to do the same for its upcoming all-new Patrol due in late 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle. This piece of news was confirmed by

from its dealer sources.
The 2024 Patrol, likely codenamed Y63, is expected to gain a twin-turbo V6. Currently, the closest powerplant Nissan has on offer matching that configuration is the 3.0-liter V6 in the Nissan Z. However, in order to deliver the sort of power and tow rating Patrol owners expect, it’s very likely that the carmaker may have to develop an all-new motor, or at least re-work this existing V6.
Additionally, the next-generation Patrol is likely to adopt a brand-new platform which is expected to shed about 500 kilograms. It may also debut a new electrical architecture giving it increased semi-autonomous driving technologies.
Although Nissan has refused to comment on the matter, the Patrol is following the lead of its large SUV contemporaries. Aside from the Land Cruiser 300 dropping its 8-cylinder engine, its North American platform-mate, the Sequoia has done the same. It must be noted that Ford dropped the V8 option for its Expedition way back in 2015.
For now, however, Patrol owners can enjoy what could be the last V8-powered Patrol as the
