The new Trails Offroad function makes it easy to plan your next Jeep adventure.
Jeep has just taken the covers off its substantially upgraded Wrangler, a rugged off-roader that has continued to hold off the newer Ford Bronco on the sales charts, and it’s the new Trails Offroad trail guide system that stands out most among the throng of newly added features.
To go along with its mildly updated exterior and an improved level of safety equipment, the latest Wrangler also debuts the first factory application of the Trails Offroad trail guide system. Building upon the Wrangler’s legendary off-road capabilities, Trails Offroad makes it simple for customers to find and plan off-road jaunts along some of the most exciting trails around the country. Think of it as the off-road version of the Porsche ROADS app, where instead of finding the best driving routes on smooth tarmac, you’ll be able to identify the coolest off-road trails.
Let’s take a closer look at how it all works and where some of these trails are.
Trails Offroad can be downloaded and accessed via the new 12.3-inch touchscreen interface backed by Uconnect 5 software. It contains trail guides for 62 Jeep Badge of Honor trails. Previously, customers could access information about these trails via the Jeep Badge of Honor app while also earning points when checking into new locations and interacting with others in the community.
Trails Offroad elevates this experience via the vehicle's infotainment system and includes notable trails like the intimidating Hell's Revenge in Utah with its steep sections and thrilling views, the Jericho Mountain in New Hampshire, and the Rubicon Trail in California. The latter, of course, shares its name with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, an even more capable version of the SUV that now comes with a Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle and tires measuring 35 inches on the Rubicon X.
But those 62 trails are only the beginning, as a premium subscription can unlock Trail Offroad's extensive catalog of over 3,000 trails. Trails can be chosen based on their level of difficulty or terrains, and once selected, customers can view information like key waypoints for turns, obstacles, and any points of interest.
A description of the route, along with a rating from Trails Offroad experts and a difficulty score based on 14 inputs, make it easy for anyone to decide if the trail is what they're looking for. The total catalog of routes includes locations in Canada, and over-the-air capability will keep Trails Offroad updated with the very latest data.
Trails Offroad is an awesome addition to the Wrangler's array of available off-road gear, from its 8,000-pound Warn winch to its 100:1 crawl ratio, four different 4×4 systems, and Dana front/rear solid axles.
