American automotive commercials for the longest have been a great spectacle and with this recent advertisement, the American SUV manufacturer Jeep has proved once again that this is absolutely the case. To commemorate Jeep’s partnership with the legendary movie franchise Jurassic World, the company has launched an all-new ad campaign that revolves around the ethos of dinosaurs just like the movie series itself. The automaker featured its highly revered SUV Wrangler in the original movie 30 years ago and now it has again featured the newest iteration of the SUV in the Jurassic World Dominion which will be the sixth and final instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise.
In the latest minute-long commercial we can see an owner of a new Jeep Wrangler 4xe comes to discover a recently hatched Carnotaurus dinosaur in his front yard. He then decides to keep the carnivore as his pet rather than calling animal control or the local natural history museum.
While this man’s new pet attempts to eat little dogs throughout the neighbourhood including one which comes past in a new Grand Cherokee 4xe with its owner in the montage. The man wears a T-Rex outfit and tries battling with it in the yard. Following this, he takes his new pet on a road adventure, in which the young dino can be seen having a lot of fun and enjoying the ride.
Later the pet gets tired and sleeps looking like a little adorable puppy, and to ensure his comfort the man switches the Wrangler to the pure electric mode for silence. The following is a compilation of his shenanigans while caring for the juvenile theropod. When the couple meets the baby’s mother on a camping trip, the relationship appears to end with the guy being devoured by the mother dinosaur. Thankfully, the man’s nightmare was only a dream.
If you are not a dinosaur expert then you would believe that this entertaining video features a baby and mother T-Rex, but you’d be mistaken. This dinosaur is known as Carnotaurus, and it is a true theropod dinosaur that existed during the Late Cretaceous era. Carnotaurus, on the other hand, has a relatively limited fossil record, and while it is thought to resemble T-Rex, it has never been digitally rebuilt. In that regard, Jeep claims that the Carnotaurus was imagined and created particularly for this commercial, marking the first occurrence of this dinosaur anywhere else.
Speaking on the collaboration Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO said, “The Jeep brand has substantially expanded in the three decades since the first appearance of the Wrangler in the original Jurassic Park film. With the rollout of our 4xe electrified portfolio that includes the Wrangler 4xe, the Jeep brand is developing the most capable and sustainable 4×4 vehicles in the world, satisfying the needs of our expanding global Jeep community.”
Meanwhile, Jeep parent company Stellantis’ global CMO Olivier Francois said, “The name of the game is relevance, and what I love about this partnership is cultural relevance: It helps us keep the brand on the global cultural map,” He further added, “Jeep is a real character and a recurrent one, a consistent character, in a movie, so a Jeep in a Jurassic film makes sense to everyone. It’s not forced, it doesn’t smell like marketing, it’s part of the narrative.”
The company also announced that members of the Jeep Wave owner loyalty programme can attend an early preview of the film on June 8 and 9 at drive-in events in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles.
