Jeep’s plans for the Indian market include the launch of three new models in 2022. These include the three-row Jeep Meridian, Jeep Compass Trailhawk facelift and the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The new fifth-generation Grand Cherokee will be assembled locally at the company’s facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra.
While the older fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was sold in India and was in fact, one of the first few models launched by the brand here, it was brought in via the CBU route, resulting in a high price tag that was one of the reasons for the lack of sales. For the fifth generation model, Jeep will assemble the Grand Cherokee in India alongside the Compass and Wrangler as well as the upcoming Meridian which should result in a more competitive price tag than before. Jeep also says that India will become the only market other than the US where the Grand Cherokee will be made.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered in its five-seat variant only. Markets like North America also get the Grand Cherokee L which is a longer seven seat version. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee will come with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol powertrain, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also gets Jeep’s Quadra-Trac I 4×4 system and Selec-Terrain traction management system. There are four driving modes to choose from Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand, and Snow. Seats within the cabin are draped in leather and the Grand Cherokee will get features such as co-passenger interactive screen, head-up display (HUD), powered tailgate, ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof.
