Nearly 12,000 new Lincoln SUVs are being recalled in Canada because an error may keep the seat-belt chime from playing its full length after vehicle start-up. The campaign affects 11,828 vehicles here, and more than 101,000 in the U.S., specifically Corsair SUVs from model years 2020 through 2022; and Aviator SUVs from model years 2020 through 2023 if they were equipped with the Revel audio system and head unit.
On affected vehicles, the warning chime that sounds upon start-up if the driver has not buckled their seat-belt may be partly muted and thus play for an insufficient amount of time – less than four seconds – due to an error caused by the Revel sound system’s software. Lincoln says this could lead to decreased seat-belt usage, which could in turn raise the risk of injury in a crash.
The defect can be fixed by a software update performed by the dealer at no charge. Affected Corsairs were built between January 7, 2019 and December 13, 2022; and affected Aviators built between October 19, 2018 and December 13, 2022. The Transport Canada recall campaign number is 2022-743, and the Ford code for the recall is 22C35.
