At the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has showcased the Mitsubishi Triton Rally Car that will be competing at the 2022 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), scheduled from 6- to 12-August.
Like a throwback to its long history of rally cars, the Triton Rally Car features silver, black, and red throughout the exterior.
Further enhancing the Triton Rally Car’s capabilities are modifications like the adjustable suspension, snorkel, mud flaps, tow hooks, and 17-inch rally wheels with Yokohama tyres.
In the unfortunate event that the Triton Rally Car gets stuck, it is also equipped with a rear recovery point and two spare tyres.
To keep the occupants safe throughout the rally course, the Triton Rally Car’s cabin gets a full roll cage, as well as Bride bucket seats and Cusco 5-point safety harness.
Being a rally car, the interior has been stripped out and the standard steering wheel has been replaced by a Sparco unit.
Mitsubishi Motors Thailand did not mention if the rally car has undergone any powertrain modifications. The regular Triton in Thailand gets a 2.4-litre turbodiesel that does 181 PS and 430 Nm, hooked up to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
Setting the Triton apart from the competition is its Super Select 4WD II system that uses an electric actuator to switch between different drive modes and a centre differential with a 40:60 front:rear torque split capability.
While the Mitsubishi Ralliart Team is owned by TANT SPORTS in Thailand, they do get technical support from Mitsubishi Motors. The team is led by Mr Hiroshi Masuoka, one of Japan’s greatest rally drivers who won the Dakar Rally twice in a row, in 2002 and 2003.

Regionally, the Triton Rally Car is the second rally car, after the over-the-top 340 PS Xpander AP4.
