MY22.5 update may be the last for the popular Mitsubishi Triton ute before it’s replaced next year
An upgraded MY22.5 Mitsubishi Triton ute line-up has been announced and it could be the final update for Australia’s third-best-selling ute before the new-generation Triton arrives next year.
However, there’s no sign yet of the range-topping new Mitsubishi Triton Raider – a nameplate we expect Mitsubishi to apply to a new Triton flagship based on the top-spec GSR as a special swansong for the current generation.
For now, the MY22.5 update brings no change to the Triton model range – or its market-leading 10-year warranty – but minor tech updates for diesel Cab-Chassis, GLX and GSR Pick-Up variants, accompanied by price hikes ranging from $500 at base level to $2450 for the top-shelf GSR.
Echoing another round of price hikes just announced for the Isuzu D-MAX, as Ford prepares to announce pricing for its all-new Ranger, the MY22.5 Triton order book is open now before production begins later this month and first deliveries take place mid-year.
Headline news for the range-topping GSR Dual-Cab Pick-Up is the return of Mitsubishi’s proprietary 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system that was replaced by an aftermarket head unit earlier this year due to the global semi-conductor shortage.
Equipped with the Multi Around Monitor 360-degree camera, six speakers, digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity with voice control and audio streaming, and a HDMI port, the unit was deleted in favour of a 7.0-inch aftermarket touch-screen system called ‘MiDisplay’ in order to continue deliveries.
The latter is now standard in MY22.5 diesel Cab-Chassis and GLX Pick-Up variants and features Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming, digital radio, four speakers, both Apple and Android smartphone connectivity and a three-in-one USB to Lightning Type C and Micro USB cable.
The entry-level, petrol-powered GLX Cab Chassis 4×2 manual retains its 6.1-inch touch-screen display audio unit with CD player and two speakers.
Triton GLS Deluxe and GSR Tan Orange Interior option packages carry over from MY22, as does a wide range of genuine accessories including the GSR’s Roll Top Tonneau Pack.
Ten exterior paint colours continue to be available, as follows:White (GLX, GLX+, GLX-R, GLS)Sterling Silver Metallic (GLX, GLX+, GLX-R, GLS)Graphite Grey Metallic (GLX, GLX+, GLX-R, GLS)Red (GLX+, GLX-R, GLS)Impulse Blue Metallic (GLX+, GLX-R, GLS)Black Mica (GLX+, GLX-R, GLS, GSR)White Diamond (GLX-R, GLS)Graphite Grey Metallic with Black Roof (GSR)Sunflare Orange Metallic with Black Roof (GSR)
White Diamond with Black Roof (GSR)
There are no other changes for the MY22.5 Mitsubishi Triton line-up, with grey/black fabric seat trim remaining standard on Triton GLX, GLX+ and GLX-R models, black/silver sports fabric trim staying for the GLS and black leather with contrasting silver stitching still found in the GSR.
Apart from the entry-level Triton GLX Single Cab Chassis 4×2’s 94kW 2.4-litre petrol engine and five-speed manual transmission (combined fuel consumption: 11.4L/100km), all other Tritons remain powered by a 133kW/430Nm 2.4-litre turbo-diesel with the choice of 4×2 or 4×4, and six-speed manual (7.8L/100km) or automatic transmission (8.6L/100km).
