Marque reveals three key areas as it seeks to make its plants worldwide cleaner and greener.
Mazda Motor Corporation has announced plans to make all its factories go carbon neutral by 2035 as part of a push for its whole supply chain to achieve the same status by 2050.
The company has targeted “three pillars” to meet its goal at plants around the world, which are energy conservation, a shift to renewable energies, and the introduction of carbon-neutral fuels for in-house transportation.
The first pillar focuses on energy conservation during vehicle manufacturing processes, which emit large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2).
These include reduction of thermal energy through the development of low-temperature curing paints and improvement of energy conversion efficiency by optimising processing technology.
Regarding the second pillar, Mazda will support efforts to expand the supply and demand of carbon-neutral electricity as well as exploring low or carbon-free power generation in its plants and procurement of electricity from renewable energy suppliers.
For the third area of focus, carbon-neutral fuels, Mazda is working towards using such fuels for in-house transportation.
