Mazda is enhancing the 2023 Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-5 lineups through the addition of a new Carbon Turbo package. Similar in ethos to the Carbon Edition made available on these model lines before, it's a styling package that focuses on darkened styling elements. However, unlike those early models which were only available in Polymetal Gray, the Carbon Turbo models will only be available in Zircon Sand Metallic.
Mazda made the announcement with a single group shot showing the exterior of these models but hasn't yet showcased the interiors, which will feature Terracotta, black suede, and gunmetal accents.
Outside, gloss black will be featured on the side mirrors and front grille, along with black wheels and other flourishes.
Importantly, the Carbon Turbo will occupy a spot near the top of the lineup, powered by the turbocharged engine in each of these model lines.

We assume these models will sit one rung below the top-of-the-line 2.5 Turbo Signature ones, which is fine with us as the regular Turbo model is still very well equipped. The Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter turbocharged engine produces 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane gas but can be run on 87 octane to produce 227 hp and 310 lb-ft. All Carbon Turbo models will inherit the six-speed automotive transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive.
But despite decent outputs, these Turbo derivatives are more sporty than sports car.
We assume that most of the features will carry over from the standard Turbo derivative, but this has not yet been confirmed. Mazda says final pricing and specification will be confirmed later when the full details of the respective MY24 model lines are announced.

The regular Turbo models come nearly fully loaded and sport a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system, LED headlights with an adaptive front lighting system, a power sunroof, AppleCarplay and Android Auto integration, a whole host of standard safety features, and much more.
As with the last time the company introduced Carbon models, we said then that the introduction of such a special edition usually meant that the end was near for certain models, and indeed since then, the CX-9 and Mazda 6 were both axed. This time, the CX-5 is living on for another generation, and the CX-30 is still a great seller, but we can't say we're not nervous about what's coming for the Mazda 3.
